North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley
Huntsville, Madison, Decatur, Florence, Muscle Shoals, Guntersville, Fort PayneHuntsville has grown into one of the South's most engineering-heavy cities, and its group travel reflects that. Weekday charters here lean toward defense and aerospace work: visiting teams moving between hotels, Redstone Arsenal and the offices around Cummings Research Park, or plant tours at the Mazda Toyota facility on the Limestone County side. Evenings and weekends bring concerts at the Orion Amphitheater and dinners in the MidCity district.
Then there's the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, home of Space Camp and one of the most visited attractions in the state. School and scout groups arrive from across the Southeast, many by coach. Pair it with the Huntsville Botanical Garden for a full day, or browse more ideas in our things to do in Huntsville guide.
West along the river, the Shoals attract music lovers to the recording studios of Muscle Shoals, where a long list of soul and rock records were cut, and history groups to Ivy Green, Helen Keller's birthplace in Tuscumbia. To the east, Lake Guntersville, DeSoto State Park and the Little River Canyon National Preserve make north Alabama the state's go-to region for church retreats, youth camps and fall color trips. Nashville sits only about 110 miles from Huntsville, so Tennessee Valley groups often cross the state line for concerts and games.
